Wyoming County Farm to School Initiative
Through Wyoming County Farm to School Initiative, students 1st-8th grade will plant, grow, and maintain native West Virginian golden delicious apple trees for the Wyoming County Community Orchard. In addition, the youth will learn the skills and techniques of vermiculture composting, resulting in the distribution and application of composting to the community orchard. This initiative will teach students the benefits of the nutrient cycle of vermiculture composting as well as the positive effects of growing healthy, sustainable produce. The initiative will also provide youth with their own apples to enjoy with their families and community. The youth participants will plant their own saplings and maintain them throughout the school year. Each week, one student will be responsible for feeding and maintaining the worms in their class vermiculture bin.
