Youth Urban Farm Training Program
The mission of this Memphis, Tennesee-based initiative focuses on providing high quality and culturally appropriate fresh foods for food insecure and low-income areas. The initiative’s mission is to set at-risk youth on the path to lifelong health by growing local, traditional, and cultural foods. The Youth Urban Farm Training Program helps young people develop the work skills, positive attitudes and work habits that are appropriate and necessary in a competitive economy. At-risk youth from the Shelby County Tennessee Juvenile Justice System's Community Service Program and selected individuals who have successfully completed their court-mandated community service are invited to participate in a training program where they receive a stipend of income and our gardening book. The youth add compost to crop beds, plant seeds, and harvest crops at their peak.
