Taste the Difference, Make a Difference!

Opal® is known as the apple with a purpose. We seek to build holistic, sustainable community by empowering members to put their dreams into action and then serve those most in need within their community. To that end we are sponsoring the Opal® Apple Youth Make a Difference initiative for 2016 and are looking to our fans and the general public to help us find our next great cause.


The Opal® Apple Youth Make a Difference initiative will award funding to youth-based initiatives serving their communities in the U.S. where youth, ages 6 – 25, take leadership roles in the initiative. We are looking for organizations seeking grant dollars in the range of $5,000 - $10,000.

The initiatives chosen will address one or more issues of: 

  • Food security
  • Nutrition
  • Agriculture
  • Food politics and education


FirstFruits Marketing will distribute up to a total of $75,000 in grant funding in 2016, distributed as multiple grants with amounts determined by need of project. All applications for 2016 funding must be received by February 27, 2016.

Application Process

The application process for 2016 is closed. Public voting for the finalists will open April 13th and close May 13th. Be sure to vote at opalapple.com/cause and click Finalist Charities.

Eligible Initiatives

FirstFruits of Washington will accept initiative applications from nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations or affiliated with school entities, in good standing, for funding requests related to community initiatives or program support who meet grant criteria.

Requirements and Exclusions

  • Applicants must be nonprofits operating in one of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia, and must submit proof of 501(c)(3) status, or affiliated with school entities, in good standing. Individuals who wish to seek funding for their initiatives are encouraged to find and work directly with a local nonprofit or school entity.

  • Organization must have an operating budget of less than $2MM.
